INSHALLAH A BOY
Director: Amjad Al Rasheed
U.S. Release: January 12
U.K. Release: TBA
The first Jordanian film to ever premiere in Cannes is finally coming to theaters in 2024, and you don’t want to miss it. There aren’t many films that can portray complex issues without judging any of the characters, and Inshallah A Boy (Inchallah un Fils) does just that. At the same time, it also raises awareness of a situation that will be unfamiliar to many audiences, in the most effective way possible. The film tells the story of a woman in her thirties (Mouna Hawa’s Nawal) who one day wakes up and finds her husband dead. Which, since she lives in Jordan, means that she will have to fight to keep everything she holds dear, from her house to custody of her daughter, since she is now a widow with no sons, and, to quote a character, “this is how things work”, in Jordan. Not to be missed.

But Cady falls for Regina’s ex-boyfriend (Christopher Briney) and that’s when she suddenly becomes an enemy. And so, Cady sets to take down the “Plastics”‘ queen bee with the help of outcast friends Janis (Auli’i Cravalho) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey).
