Season 8 of 9-1-1 is currently being released, with new episodes airing every Thursday, and if the series has been running for so long, it’s because it’s highly bingeable. 9-1-1 is a procedural drama from showrunners Ryan Murphy (of Glee and Hollywood fame), Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear. At the center of it are a series of different first responders, from police officers to firefighters and more, whom we follow as they answer the titular 9-1-1 call and spend their days saving lives, facing chaotic, often life-threatening situations.

But on the other hand, it’s inspired from true events, which means that what we see throughout its eight series becomes all the more affecting, its content resembling the news we watch on our own TV. It’s often a harrowing watch, yet it’s also a surprisingly uplifting and inspirational one, and Angela Bassett is superb. 9-1-1 is one of the best Fox shows out there, and if you haven’t discovered it yet, you’re in for a treat.
Animal Control (2023,-)
This recent release is perfect if you’re looking for something lighthearted and with a unique premise! Animal Control (2023,-) revolves around a group of – you guessed it – animal control workers, led by the eccentric but well-meaning Frank (Joel McHale). Frank also happens to be an ex-cop, who got fired when he tried to expose how corrupt his department was. Now, he’s moved on to a completely new career – one that he’s definitely overqualified for, even in his current cynical state – where he gets to use a different set of skills entirely. Because Frank also somehow has the ability to understand animals, in an almost superhuman ways.
Animal Control is a fun sitcom that won’t offer you any shocking twists or in-depth analysis, but it’ll keep you entertained with two seasons and a half – the third season is currently ongoing, with new episodes released every Thursday – that keep getting better. MasterChef (2010,-)
If you haven’t been living under a rock, chances are you already know what MasterChef is, but we simply had to include it in our list because it’s one of the most popular and beloved reality shows out there. The premise is simple: 50 amateur chefs take part in a competition, where the winner will be crown one of the country’s “Masterchefs”. Just like most reality shows, it follows a process of eliminations, and less contestants remain as the series goes on. So why is it so popular? For two reasons. Firstly, judges’ Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Aarón Sánchez‘s charisma and quirks. Secondly, the contestants, with whom you’ll be able to relate immensely.
There are (wait for it) 282 episodes available, and that’s not even counting its many spin-offs (MasterChef: The Professionals, Celebrity MasterChef, MasterChef Junior: the list goes on) and international adaptations. But that’s the beauty of it: if you’re looking for something to watch that will keep the whole family entertained, prepare to find your new obsession.
Murder in a Small Town (2024,-)
This one’s for all the crime junkies out there. Murder in a Small Town is not based on a true story but on a series of novels: L.R. Wright’s bestselling “Karl Alberg” nine-book series, which should give you plenty of material if you’d like to get ahead after you’ve seen the first season. Karl Alberg is actually the name of the show’s protagonist, here played by Rossif Sutherland. When the series starts, he has just moved to the idyllic titular coastal town, where he’s been made the new chief of police. Karl is looking for quiet after a lifetime as a big-city cop, but he’s not going to get it, as it turns out that Gibsons, British Columbia, is full of secrets.
Needless to say, a murder takes place, followed by more deaths that Karl needs to solve, with the help of local librarian Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk), with whom a romance soon blossoms. Season 1 of Murder in a Small Town – the only one available at the time of writing – was released in 2024 and was immediately a success. Even though the show doesn’t revolutionize the crime formula, it features a haunting, atmospheric setting and fantastic performances from its leads that will keep you hooked throughout.
The Simpsons (1989,-)
Let’s end our list with a beloved Fox show that has been around since 1989, captivating audiences of all ages with 36 beautiful, hilarious, heartwarming seasons. What’s even more surprising is that The Simpsons is still around, and new episodes are currently being released, which just goes to show just how much it resonates with viewers. If you’re not familiar with this animated gem, it revolves around the titular family, who lives in the town of Springfield, though the State is unknown.
