Dearest gentle reader, it is finally official: Bridgerton season 4 will focus on the one and only Benedict Bridgerton. Fans of the show will know that Benedict’s turn was a long time coming. If the Netflix series were to follow the order of the books it is based on, season three would have been the one portraying Benedict’s story instead. Instead, the show decided to focus on Colin and Penelope’s love story before his older brother. Finally, the fandom can rejoice in knowing they will also see this love story on the screen in the near future but what can we expect from the next season? Read to find out.
A New Love Interest in Bridgerton Season 4
It is clear, therefore, that it’s time for Benedict to find love and lead his very own season. This can only mean one thing: a new love interest in season 4. Readers of the book will know that Benedict will find love with Sophie Beckett. Will the show follow the same romantic plotline? It is very likely, but in true Bridgerton fashion, we can also expect it to introduce another possible love interest for either Benedict or Sophie that will heighten the stakes and create a love triangle that we have seen in all the seasons of the show so far. It is, therefore, safe to say that the Netflix series will add more members to its cast, but we don’t know who yet.
Season 4 of Bridgerton as a Retelling of Cinderella
Based on Julia Quinn’s book “An Offer from A Gentlemen,” Benedict’s story is very much a retelling of one of the most famous fairytales, Cinderella. In fact, Sophie is the illegitimate child of an earl and his maid he had an affair with. According to the book, after Sophie’s father re-married, she was essentially kept on as the maid to the family of the ton her father married into with her treatment getting worse when he died. When she manages to sneak into Lady Bridgerton’s ball, Benedict quite literally meets her Prince Charming in, of course, our male lead: Benedict, who will keep thinking about her and looking for her after that night.
Regency-Era Society in Season 4: The Masquerade Ball in Bridgerton
Balls are one of the defining features of Bridgerton as a whole. In fact, even in previous seasons, some of the key moments in the main characters’ relationships have been defined by a specific ball or social event. In season 1, Daphne and the Duke start their rouse during one of the first balls of the season. Judging from the rest of the show, Season 4 will not disappoint when it comes to showing us the glitz and glamours of the social season of Mayfair. In particular, the end of season 3 already hinted at one of the most important balls of the season: Lady Bridgerton’s Masquerade Ball, where Benedict and Sophie will first meet.
Will we see the other Bridgerton siblings in the next season?
As fans have seen in previous seasons, Bridgerton tends to focus on multiple plotlines rather than only on the main narrative or the sibling in question. In particular, we can expect season 4 to continue Francesca’s story in preparation for her own season down the line. As Francesca and her husband John move to Scotland, how will their relationship as newlyweds shape with the newly introduced figure of Michaela, John’s cousin? This is definitely something the next season might wish to explore given the last episode of season 3 and the future of Francesca’s relationship.
Will Kanthony and Polin be in Bridgerton Season 4?
Fans can rest assured knowing that some of the previous couples we know and love are more than willing to remain in the Bridgerton show. While their screen time may decrease, the actors who played some of the most beloved couples in the show – namely, Kate and Anthony and Colin and Penelope – have all expressed their intention to return to their characters in season 4. Just as we have seen in the show so far, the audience can look forward to exploring each couple’s married life and perhaps even help Benedict navigate the marriage mart during his very own season.
There is still much we do not know about the next season of Bridgerton – after all, the show has not even started filming yet –but one thing is for certain: season 4 will introduce a new love story and compelling love interest as Benedict gets ready to find his match.
