As summer comes to an end, some of the year’s biggest, most anticipated releases are arriving. Here are the 14 shows to stream in September 2026.
As we say goodbye to summer’s unbearable, sweat-fueled heat waves, we welcome September and its bevy of highly anticipated new and returning shows with arms wide open. There’s so much juicy content in store, I don’t know where to begin, so we’ll hit the highlights then dive deeper into this month’s streaming lineup.
September highlights include a Reacher spin-off series, a Snowfall spin-off series, an Australia-based crime drama series, a reboot of a classic 80s sitcom, a Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson comedy series, and a harrowing Jon Hamm-led psychological thriller that is inspired by true events, to name a few. New sports docuseries are also in store, the most anticipated being the untold story of 2024’s viral Olympic breakdancer, Raygun.
Streaming fans can also expect the return of series favorites that have kept us jonesing for more. Back with their second seasons are The Gentlemen, MobLand, The Paper, Chad Powers, and Scrubs. Netflix’s Monster anthology series also returns with a new installment, this time focused on the story of Lizzie Borden.
Here is a full look at 14 new and returning shows to stream in September 2026, listed in order of release date, along with a list of other shows returning this month.
1. Untold Raygun: Breaking Badly

I love a good sports documentary, and the one that has me on pins and needles is the new Untold entry tracking the 2024 Olympic breakdancing sensation Rachael Gunn.
Untold Raygun: Breaking Badly will take us deep inside the rise, fall, and reinvention of Australia’s polarizing figure Raygun, the academic and competitive breakdancer who ignited a global firestorm following her 2024 Olympic debut. Her performance at the games went viral overnight, as did an avalanche of memes, misinformation, and conspiracy theories questioning how she was ever admitted in the first place.
2. The Gentlemen, Season 2
Premiere Date: September 3, 2026

The Gentlemen are back in business in Guy Ritchie’s new season of his hit Netflix action-comedy series. Season two will see Eddie (Theo James) and Susie (Kaya Scodelario) take their criminal enterprise international, switching out the English countryside for Italian lakes. They’ll also contend with Italian crime boss Marco Moretti (Sergio Castellitto, of Conclave).
The main cast will return for all eight episodes. New cast additions include Hugh Bonnevile (I Came By), Benjamin Clementine (Dune), Benedetta Porcaroli (The Leopard), Amra Mallassi (Dune: Part Two), and Tyler Conti (Safe). British boxer Chris Eubank Jr. is also involved.
3. Chad Powers, Season 2
Premiere Date: September 3, 2026

If you’re a fan of Glen Powell and haven’t seen Chad Powers, you’re totally missing out on experiencing one of the actor’s best performances to date. As a man living inside the fake skin of another man, Russ Holliday/Chad Powers (Powell) finds himself in a weird situation that is growing more complicated by the moment.
Now that offensive assistant coach Ricky Hudson (Perry Mattfeld, of In the Dark) knows Powers is really the disgraced former Oregon quarterback Russ Holliday in prosthetics, the clock is ticking. While South Georgia has fallen for Powers, Coach Hudson (Steve Zahn, of Silo) is growing suspicious. With the South Georgia Catfish closer than ever to the College Football Playoffs, Russ and team mascot Danny (Frankie A. Rodriguez, of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) must convince Ricky—the one person who wants nothing to do with them—to help keep the act alive long enough to finish the season. All episodes will drop at once.
4. A Tale of Two Cities

If you’re wondering if this is an adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens novel, you’d be correct. A Tale of Two Cities is a British historical drama set in London during the late 1700s. The plot follows two men, Sydney Carton (Kit Harington, of Game of Thrones) and Charles Darnay (François Civil, of Fiasco), as they become involved in a dangerous love triangle with Lucy Manette (Mirren Mack, of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple), a woman attempting to find her father, whom she presumed was dead. This new version is developed by Daniel West, who previously worked with Harington on Gunpowder.
5. Untold Mr. T: I Pity the Fool
Premiere Date: September 8, 2026

As a man who pities the fool, Mr. T is one of America’s most beloved entertainment personas. But before his signature mohawk, all the gold chains, and the Hollywood fame that came with Rocky III and The A-Team, there was Laurence Tureaud. Untold Mr. T: I Pity the Fool tells the extraordinary origin story behind one of the most unlikely icons in the industry.
6. The Drop: A Snowfall Saga
Premiere Date: September 8, 2026

Of everything new premiering this month, I’m most excited about The Drop: A Snowfall Saga. I have no doubt it will achieve the masterful level of storytelling that its predecessor did, but maybe this time around, it won’t be snubbed during awards season.
The Drop follows Snowfall characters Wanda Bell (Gail Bean) and Leon Simmons (Isaiah John) as they fight to reinvent themselves in 1990s Los Angeles, where the fallout from the crack epidemic is fueling a new game: the rise of West Coast rap. Believing it has the power to reshape American culture, Wanda finds herself navigating the dangerous overlap of music and street politics while Leon chases his own atonement through his free legal clinic.
7. The Paper, Season 2
Premiere Date: September 9, 2026

The Paper is one of my new favorite sitcoms. As a journalist, I was hooked in season 1 when the editor-in-chief held a staff meeting and brought up the five Ws of journalism (who, what, where, when, why). The staff response was, “The five Ws? Is that a gang?”
Season 2 of this Midwestern spin-off of The Office follows EIC Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson, of Echo Valley) as he works to evolve the Toledo Truth Teller and turn his staff into bona fide journalists. The new season will also dive into the potential romance between Ned and staff member Mare (Chelsea Frei, of The Cleaning Lady), who have been compared to the spin-off’s version of Jim and Pam. All episodes will drop at once.
8. Last Seen
Premiere Date: September 9, 2026
Where to Watch: Apple TV
Patrick Brammall (Colin From Accounts) stars in Australia-based crime thriller Last Seen. The story follows a former detective-turned-police dispatcher whose life was shattered 11 years ago when his young daughter vanished without a trace. After receiving a frantic distress call from a teenage girl, he is convinced that she is his missing daughter, which sparks a desperate and reckless renewed search. The series is adapted from the award-winning novel The Dispatcher by Ryan David Jahn.
9. Neagley
Premiere Date: September 16, 2026
Where to Watch: Prime Video
If you’re a fan of Reacher, you’ll be happy to know its official spin-off, Neagley, is almost here. Across eight episodes, we’ll follow titular character Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) as she works in Chicago as a private investigator. When she learns that a close friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, Neagley sets out for justice using everything she has learned from her military mentor Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) and her time as a member of the Army’s 110 Special Investigators. All eight episodes will drop at once.
10. Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story
Premiere Date: September 17, 2026

In the fourth installment of Ryan Murphy’s and Ian Brennan’s stellar horror anthology series Monster, we’re headed back to the Victorian era to explore one of the most famous unsolved crimes in American history. In 1892, 32-year-old Sunday school teacher Lizzie Borden (Ella Beatty, of If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) allegedly slaughtered her wealthy father, Andrew (Charlie Hunnam, of The Ed Gein Story) and her stepmother, Abby (Rebecca Hall, of The Beauty) with an axe.
Brennan describes the show as a darkly comedic approach in telling what is meant to be a “a feminist story in Victorian-era America,” when being a woman “was to be almost a completely different species. You were treated like you were incapable of not only actions, but [also] the thoughts that a man was capable of.”
11. Mobland, Season 2
Premiere Date: September 17, 2026

The Harrigans and their street-smart fixer, Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy, of the Venom franchise), are back for blood in MobLand season 2. In the wake of the family’s fractured criminal empire, the Harrigans struggle to show a unified front as rival sharks circle in the water. Harry finds himself walking a dangerous tightrope when tensions between relations intensify. When violence seeps out into every corner of our characters’ lives, loyalties snap, safety proves a temporary illusion, and the battle for power leaves no room for mercy. Action, drama, and a wild streak of lunacy await.
12. American Hostage
Premiere Date: September 20, 2026

Jon Hamm (Your Friends and Neighbors) stars in American Hostage, an eight-episode psychological thriller set in 1970s Indianapolis. While the show is based on the acclaimed first season of the scripted podcast of the same name, it is inspired by the harrowing true story of Fred Heckman. As one of the city’s most beloved radio reporters, Heckman is thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis (Giovanni Ribisi, of Sneaky Pete) demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program.
13. Brothers
Premiere Date: September 23, 2026

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson star in Apple TV’s newest comedy series, Brothers, in which the actors will play fictionalized versions of themselves. When the Harrelson family heads to the McConaughey ranch in Texas for an extended stay, Woody and Matthew learn they very well might be brothers. While Woody becomes obsessed with finding the truth, Matthew is distracted by his potential run for Governor of Texas.
14. A Different World
Premiere Date: September 24, 2026

Unless you’re a super-cool Gen-Xer, you’ll have no idea about the popular late-80s/early-90s sitcom A Different World. The six-season gem is being rebooted exactly 39 years after the original series premiered. Original stars Jasmine Guy (Harlem) and Kadeem Hardison (The Chi) are both reprising their roles in what co-star Maleah Joi Moon calls “a beautiful homage to what came before, while forging out its own path.”
The reboot follows a new generation of students at Hillman College, with the daughter (Moon) of Dwayne Wayne (Hardison) and Whitley Gilbert (Guy) struggling to shake off the enduring legacy of her parents as she enters her freshman year.
