Get the lowdown on the 12 most anticipated movies of June 2025: From Materialists‘ love triangle to F1‘s high-speed chaos, summer just got epic!

Thanks to Stitchpossible’s massive Memorial Day weekend haul that kicked off the 2025 summer movie season with a bang, industry experts predict revenue will exceed $4 billion by fall. That’s welcome news for major Hollywood players who’ve watched budgets shrink and franchise dreams become non-starters. While July’s newest Jurassic Park adventure and August’s long-awaited Freaky Friday sequel will contribute hefty chunks to summer’s total, June 2025 delivers an impressive slate of releases that pack serious box-office punch, with several of the most anticipated movies potentially emerging as sleeper critical darlings with award potential.

If you’re ready to discover which films (listed by release date) are generating the most buzz and why they deserve spots on your must-see list, keep reading!

1. Ballerina (June 6, 2025)

Where to watch: In Theaters

Oscar-nominee Ana de Armas (Blonde) pirouettes into the lethal world of the Ruska Roma in this John Wick universe spin-off, where ballet meets bullets for a stylish revenge tale. Set between John Wick Chapters 3 and 4, the story follows Eve Macarro as she transforms from a graceful dancer to a deadly assassin, hunting down the Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne, Dance First), the man who took her father’s life. The supporting cast reads like a hitman’s most wanted: Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane, the late Lance Reddick (in his final performance), and Keanu Reeves returning as John Wick.

Completed in February 2023 under director Len Wiseman, the film underwent several rounds of reshoots, overseen by original John Wick director Chad Stahelski, resulting in nearly the entire film being reshot to retain the same bone-crunching choreography that made the franchise legendary. Production delays often send critical vultures swirling, but don’t discount the popularity of this ever-expanding franchise.

2. The Life of Chuck (June 6, 2025)

January 10, 2025

Where to watch: In Theaters

Horror maestro Mike Flanagan’s genre-defying adaptation of a Stephen King short story won the People’s Choice Award at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and for good reason. It’s a haunting exploration of one man’s extraordinary ordinary life. Tom Hiddleston (Crimson Peak) anchors a sprawling ensemble cast including Mark Hamill, Mia Sara, Karen Gillan, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and unlike typical King adaptations, this is poised to be one of the most poetic and thought-provoking movies of the season.

Flanagan, who previously brought us King’s Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep, continues his masterful streak of adaptations by embracing the author’s more contemplative side, delivering the emotional depth of Stand by Me rather than the scares of IT. Saying too much more would ruin the multitude of surprises the movie contains. Still, with its festival pedigree and powerhouse performances (young Benjamin Pajak is outstanding as Hiddleston’s younger self), this could be the must-see sleeper hit of the summer that reminds us why small, human stories often pack the biggest punch.

3. Predator: Killer of Killers (June 6, 2025)

Where to watch: Hulu

12 Most Anticipated Movies in June 2025 – Predator: Killer of Killers (Hulu)

The Predator franchise leaps into animation as writer/director Dan Trachtenberg follows up his brilliant reboot Prey with an animated science fiction anthology that spans centuries of human warfare. Three fierce warriors – a Viking raider, a feudal Japanese ninja, and a WWII pilot – discover they’re not the apex predators they thought they were when the ultimate hunter arrives. This ambitious project, created in secret and announced in October 2024, promises to expand the Predator mythology while showcasing different animation styles across historical periods.

Michael Biehn lends his voice to this project that could redefine what a Predator movie can be. By going the animated route, Trachtenberg unleashes creative possibilities that live-action can’t match, potentially delivering the most visually stunning entry in the franchise’s history. How or if this ties into Trachtenberg’s next entry, Predator: Badlands, set for release in November 2025, is as yet unknown, but he’s already demonstrated a talent for giving this series a blood-soaked boost.

4. Deep Cover (June 12, 2025)

Where to watch: Prime Video

Prime Video’s Deep Cover offers three improv actors the ultimate acting challenge after London police recruit them to infiltrate a criminal gang using nothing but their “yes, and…” training. Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed star in this high-concept comedy, navigating the dangerous world of method acting taken to criminal extremes. Directed by Tom Kingsley and written by a trio that includes Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow, it features a few heavy-hitters (Ian McShane and Sean Bean) and feels as if it could be a witty, whip-smart riff on the madcap criminal caper this country does so nicely. If Kingsley and his cast can cleverly explore how performance and reality blur when the stakes are life and death, making you laugh while keeping you on the edge of your seat, this will be one to mark your calendars for.

5. How to Train Your Dragon (June 13, 2025)

Where to watch: In Theaters

Bravely following Disney’s lead, DreamWorks takes flight with their first live-action remake of one of their animated blockbusters, bringing the friendship between Hiccup the Horrible and his dragon Toothless to photorealistic life. Expect to see iconic scenes recreated shot-for-shot in a movie that was filmed in Belfast and captured in IMAX cinematography to make dragon flight feel viscerally real. At the same time, practical sets bring Berk to life in vivid detail, hopefully ensuring this isn’t just a cash grab but a faithful reimagining that captures the original’s heart.

Mason Thames (The Black Phone) and Nico Parker (Suncoast) are Hiccup and Astrid, leading a cast that includes Gerard Butler (Plane) reprising his role as Stoick the Vast from the original animated trilogy directed by Dean DeBlois, who returns to direct the remake. With a reported $165 million budget, early trailers featuring breathtaking visuals and positive buzz from previews suggest that this could be the live-action adaptation that proves some animated classics can successfully make the jump to reality.

6. Materialists (June 13, 2025)

Where to watch: In Theaters

Following her Oscar-nominated Past Lives, Celine Song returns with a swoony new summer breeze of a romantic comedy. Dakota Johnson (Daddio), Chris Evans (Ghosted), and Pedro Pascal (Eddington) star in what could be the year’s most sophisticated love triangle. A24’s involvement guarantees this won’t be your typical rom-com, but you can expect the same emotional intelligence and intellectual nuance that made Song’s debut so captivating. The trio of A-listers brings serious dramatic chops to a story about a New York City matchmaker who finds her own love life as complicated as her clients.

Shot on location by Shabier Kirchner on lush 35mm, this date-night must-see exudes a mature visual intimacy, ensuring every glance carries weight. Every few years, we get a new benchmark for the romantic comedy of a given generation. With its ambitious high stakes, Materialists could very well redefine the romantic comedy genre for modern audiences.

7. Echo Valley (June 13, 2025)

Where to watch: Apple TV+

Tension crackles in Echo Valley, an Apple TV+ thriller starring Julianne Moore (Far From Heaven) and Sydney Sweeney and directed by Michael Pearce, the filmmaker behind 2017’s disturbing Beast. Moore is a mother training horses on a rural Pennsylvania farm whose world shatters when her daughter (Sydney Sweeney, Immaculate) shows up covered in someone else’s blood.

With a script by Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby, this family drama features a lot of talent behind the camera skilled at weaving psychological tension with a dangerous current of emotions. Exploring how far a parent will go for their child as dark secrets unravel that blur the lines between victim and perpetrator, the film features an impressive ensemble including Domhnall Gleeson, Kyle MacLachlan, and Fiona Shaw. While it will have a limited theatrical release, the slow-burn thriller is excellent counterprogramming for those wanting to take a week off from the theaters in mid-June.

8. 28 Years Later (June 20, 2025)

For horror fans, 28 Years Later is the big ticket of the summer. Danny Boyle and Alex Garland reunite to continue their groundbreaking apocalyptic zombie saga launched in 2002 with the long-awaited third chapter. Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes are survivors of The Rage virus living on a tidal island, facing a desolate world where the infected still prowl and have become part of the natural ecosystem until a father-son mission to the mainland reveals new horrors.

Mostly shot with iPhone 15 Pro Max cameras on the windswept Northumberland coast by cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle, this third entry has been terrifying audiences already with an effective preview that gets your heart racing. A secret sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, was filmed back-to-back and is targeted for release in early 2026, putting more pressure on this to be an evolution of the survival horror genre, one that can recapture the visceral terror and social commentary that made 28 Days Later a must-see classic.

9. Elio (June 20, 2025)

Where to watch: In Theaters

Pixar ventures into space, whisking audiences to the stars with this out-of-this-world adventure about an eleven-year-old alien enthusiast who accidentally becomes Earth’s ambassador to a galaxy-spanning alien council. Mistakenly identified as our planet’s leader, Elio must navigate alien politics and save the universe using nothing but his charm, imagination, and heart. Alien oddities, epic visuals, and a tale of a misfit finding his place in the universe seem in alignment with the studio’s trademark emotional storytelling.

In what looks to be Pixar’s most ambitious concept in ages, directors Domee Shi (Turning Red) and Madeline Sharafian appear to be bringing a heady blend of humor, working with the vocal talents of Zoe Saldaña, Brad Garrett, Shirley Henderson, Jameela Jamil, and Yonas Kibreab voicing Elio. There hasn’t been much promotion for this cosmic coming-of-age adventure, which is strange considering how well Pixar has performed in the past, even with their lesser titles. The film has drawn comparisons to Coco and WALL-E, two of Pixar’s most oft-revisited titles, so with the right push, Elio could be another jewel in their sizable crown.

10. Frozen (June 20, 2025)

Following Hamilton’s streaming success in July 2020, Disney+ brings the Broadway magic of the acclaimed West End production of Frozen: The Musical directly to the living room of viewers. Filmed live in 2024 at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane shortly before the production shuttered, this isn’t just a stage recording but a cinematic translation to the small screen of the spectacle audiences around the world have seen. Reborn with fresh theatrical magic, the musical was directed by Michael Grandage and stars Samantha Barks as Elsa and Laura Dawkes as Anna. There are 12 new songs alongside beloved classics like “Let It Go,” in addition to dazzling stagecraft. Streaming in time for summer sing-alongs, this release could help establish a new gold standard for how Broadway productions embrace digital platforms, bringing world-class theater to audiences everywhere.

11. F1 (June 27, 2025)

Where to watch: In Theaters

The high-speed world of Formula One revs up and roars onto screens with Brad Pitt (Wolfs) starring as a retired racer pulled back to the track to mentor a rookie (Damson Idris) on a fictional team competing against the sport’s biggest names. Applying the same visceral realism to the world of Formula One as he did to Top Gun: Maverick’s death-defying aerial sequences, writer/director Joseph Kosinski shot the movie during real race weekends and featured cameos from top F1 drivers.

While it gives off slight Days of Thunder vibes structurally (and Hans Zimmer scored both pictures), there’s no doubt celebrated cinematographer Claudio Miranda (Spiderhead) has pushed the visuals to another must-see level entirely. Filmed for IMAX, the $300 million production is the closest you’ll get to Formula One without a helmet, putting you in the driver’s seat like never before, making every turn feel life-threatening and each pit stop a make-it-or-break-it nail-biter.

12. M3GAN 2.0 (June 27, 2025)

Closing out June with an electric surge, M3GAN 2.0 brings back the killer doll in this sequel to the 2022 surprise hit that pits deadly AI against an even deadlier AI in the ultimate technological showdown. Allison Williams reprises her role as Gemma, who is forced to rebuild M3GAN to fight Amelia, a military defense robot that’s gone rogue and threatens global destruction. Returning director Gerard Johnstone ups the stakes by exploring what happens when our creations become our protectors even when they’re still terrifyingly unpredictable.

Though new cast members and an increased budget suggest bigger, deadlier robot battles (and more creepy M3GAN dancing), the PG-13 rating limits how far this foul-mouthed mean girl robot can go, a complaint leveled at the original eventually solved by an Unrated Cut when released for home viewing. However, as the perils of AI continue to be at the forefront of the national conversation, this sequel could deliver the rare horror follow-up that improves on its predecessor’s blend of scares and social commentary.
