What to Expect From the New Flash Movie

What can we expect from the new Flash movie? Here’s all you need to know, from release date, plot and cast to why you should be excited about the new DC film!

One of the most delayed films in the history of delayed films is about to be released! We’re talking about the new Flash movie, from DC comics, which suffered various setbacks in the past few years, first due to changes of directors and script rewrites, then to creative differences, then to the impact of COVID-19, and finally, to the recent controversies regarding Ezra Miller. Keeping all of this in mind, The Flash (2023) has actually been in production for over seven years. But the wait is over. So what can we expect from the new Flash movie? Let’s look at all you need to know about the film, from cast, plot and release date to why you should be excited about DC Comics’ film.

What is the New Flash Movie About?

You guessed it: the film will be about the titular superhero. But according to ExpressVPN, the titular fastest man alive has undergone many changes throughout the past seventy years, having been first introduced in the 1940s in “Flash Comics #1” and then appeared, with many different aliases and storylines, in a variety of graphic novels, films, and TV series. The new Flash movie will take us back to the comics – in particular, to Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert’s “Flashpoint” (2011) storyline, which not only marked an important moment for the character, but was key for the DC Universe as a whole.

What to Expect From the New Flash Movie

“Flashpoint” established that the Flash/Barry Allen could make major changes to the Multiverse, and, as a consequence, it pretty much rebooted the entire series by creating a whole new timeline and universe. And “Flashpoint” also gives us a much darker and grittier alternate reality than what we’re accustomed to seeing from DC, which makes it one of the most beloved DC universes.

Directed by Andy Muschietti, the 2023 film, which is also DC’s first-ever standalone movie, begins when Barry (Ezra Miller) sets off on a mission to save his family, which requires him to time-travel to the past. But his meddling with the past ends up having consequences on his present reality, as he accidentally changes the future instead. And so, Barry finds himself trapped in an alternate reality in which his past antagonist General Zod (Michael Shannon) is back. But this time, no one can help him defeat him. And so, the Flash decides to conjure up some superheroes of his own, starting with a very different (and very much retired) Batman (Ben Affleck) than the one he knows. Will Barry be able to save his mother and change the future while fighting off different versions of antagonists he’s already defeated in the past?

What Can We Expect From the Movie?

Plenty of heroes and villains, for starters. The final trailer from the film confirmed that just like in Spider-Man: No Way Home, we’re definitely going to see at least another version of The Flash – played not by The Flash (2014-2023)’s Grant Gustin, to the fans’ disappointment, but by Miller too – as well as two versions of Batman, played by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton. The trailer also confirmed Kiersey Clemons’ return as Iris West, and, to everyone’s delight, Jeremy Irons will be back as Batman’s butler/surrogate father, Alfred Pennyworth. But that’s not all. Sasha Calle will also make her first, much-anticipated appearance as Supergirl in the movie, and – wait for it – Nicolas Cage was “absolutely wonderful” in a cameo, according to what Andy Muschietti told Esquire.

The Flash: Final Trailer (DC Entertainment)

With all these characters from past DC movies appearing in the film, it’s safe to assume that, as expected, the new Flash movie will mark the end of the SnyderVerse and bring on a new phase for the DC Universe, and that, alone, gives us reason to be excited. The trailer looks great, and the all-star cast is bound to give us some excellent acting – and, as much as we don’t like to admit it, given the recent controversies, Ezra Miller does look the part. Not only that, but he might actually be very good in the film, as the first reactions to the movie pretty much unanimously praised their performance.

Who Else is in the Cast?

Besides Ezra Miller (The Flash), Ben Affleck (Batman), Michael Keaton (also Batman), Sasha Calle (Supergirl), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), and Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), as well as Nic Cage in an undisclosed cameo, Warner Bros. confirmed the presence of Antje Traue (Faora-UI), Ron Livingston (Henry Allen), and Maribel Verdù (Nora Allen). Temuera Morrison, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso, Isabelle Bernardo, and Ian Loh are also listed in the credits.

When Will the New Flash Movie Be Released?

The new Flash movie will be released globally in theaters on June 16, 2023.

Why Should You Be Excited About the Film?

There’s actually quite a lot to be excited about the new Flash movie. First of all, there’s “Flashpoint”, which confirms that The Flash will mark a turning point for the DC Universe by pretty much resetting the timeline we know and setting forth a new phase for future films. There’s been much praise for Ezra Miller’s performance, and the film will also give us Supergirl’s first appearance and bring back beloved DC characters from the SnyderVerse.

And finally, the trailer does look pretty great!
