5 New TV Shows About School Life

stills from Ginny & Georgia, Cruel Summer, and the sex lives of college girls, three new shows about school life

Television is a powerful tool that can transport you to wonderful places. But sometimes what you need the most is a comfort watch – something that can either reflect your own reality back at you, showing you something where you can feel represented, or bring you that dose of nostalgia you crave, taking you back to a time of your life you miss. That’s what the best TV shows can do, and we often look back at our school years, as stressful as they are, as years when we made our best memories. If you’re a fan of series like Sex Education and Never Have I Ever and are wondering about what to watch next, look no further! Here is a list of 5 new TV shows about school life! Find them below in alphabetical order, and happy binge-watching!

1. Cruel Summer (2021-2023)

Showrunner: Bert V. Royal
Where to Watch it: Hulu

What’s great about Cruel Summer is that it’s an anthology series, and each season – there are two so far – presents a completely different cast of characters. Not only that, but even looking at the first season alone, the premise is extremely compelling. Each episode shows us the same day, but over the course of three different years: 1993, 1994, and 1995. And on top of this, there’s a mystery to solve. In 1993, the popular Kate (Olivia Holt) has disappeared, and, at the same time, an outsider named Jeanette (Chiara Aurelia) arrives at the same Texas town. But two years later, in 1995, everyone in the States seems to despise Jeannette, and it somehow has to do with Kate. But who should we believe? What actually happened?

Cruel Summer is one of those shows that has you hooked from the very first episode, and it will take you on a thrilling, unforgettable trip and keep you guessing until the very end. It is also an unusual kind of college show, as it has a non-linear narrative that will present you with different points of view of the same experience.

Speaking of college, while it can be an exhilarating experience, it comes with its own set of challenges, such as the stress of doing assignments. With the help of a coursework writer, this problem can be solved. Students can hire experts to deliver their assignments on time to keep enjoying the perks of being a college student without any academic stress.

2. Euphoria (2019,-)

Showrunner: Sam Levinson
Where to Watch it: Max

Euphoria is not as recent as the other shows in our lists, but we wanted to include it because of the recent rumors of Season 3’s delays. Earlier this week, Variety reported that the third season of this much-discussed HBO series will be released, and that showrunner Sam Levinson is determined to make it an “exceptional” one, so we have hopes that this new series might bring back the kind of storytelling we loved in Season 1.

Euphoria initially revolves around a girl named Rue (Zendaya), a recovering drug addict who’s just started school again and is trying to rekindle relationships with her peers while navigating complex dynamics with her mum and sister (Storm Reid). Soon, a new character is introduced in the form of Hunter Schafer’s Jules, who’s just moved in with her dad and who also has her share trauma to deal with – some dating back to her youth, but some unexpectedly recent too. And then there’s Nate (Jacob Elordi), son of wealthy real estate magnate Cal (Eric Dane), whose struggle to control his sudden outbursts of violence make him very difficult to interact with. And on top of this, and many other multilayered characters we meet throughout the two seasons, there are many secrets that have the potential to ruin more than one life.

Euphoria’s Season 2 is admittedly a lot worse than the first, mainly for the lack of the kind of engaging storytelling and complex characterization that made the first one so successful. But the first season will give you plenty to love, and we recommend checking it out before Season 3 is released!

3. Ginny & Georgia (2021,-)

Showrunner: Sarah Lampert
Where to Watch it: Netflix

Ginny & Georgia Season 2 Trailer (Netflix)

The free-spirited Georgia (Brianne Howey) moves to Wellsbury, Massachusetts with her teenage daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and 9-year-old son Austin (Diesel La Torraca): the family’s husband/father has just died, and they’re all looking to start afresh. Throughout the two seasons available so far, she will do just that, and so will her daughter. This lovely dramedy follows both mother and daughter as they both attempt to process their grief and build new lives for themselves. For Georgia, it means dealing with money problems and the meddling ex-wife of the man she’s trying to date; for Ginny, it’s navigating high school, with all the new challenges and experiences that come with it.

Ginny & Georgia is a very lighthearted series, but that’s the beauty of it! In her review for The Guardian, critic Lucy Mangan calls it “Desperate Housewives meets Gilmore Girls – and there’s nothing wrong with that,” and that’s the perfect way to describe this highly enjoyable show!

4. Saved by the Bell (2020-2021)

Showrunners: Sam Bobrick & Tracey Wigfield
Where to Watch it: Peacock

Saved by the Bell (Peacock)

This 2020 sitcom is a reboot of the popular 1980s series, and while it’s neither as good nor as iconic as the original, it still provides plenty of nostalgia, fun characters, and great performances to bring them to life. Fans of the 1989 series will enjoy reuniting with some of the characters, as the Peacock show begins 26 years after the end of the original show. Our beloved characters are now in their forties, but that doesn’t mean we can have some moments in high school. A new generation of students is enrolling at Bayside High, and drama begins right away when the school risks being closed due to a new plan to shut down all low-income colleges and make everyone attend the wealthier ones.

Josie Totah and Mitchell Hoog shine as Lexi and Mac, two of the protagonists you’ll find yourself captivated by in this new reboot. Saved by the Bell (2020-2021) is a delightful trip down memory lane!

5. The Sex Lives of College Girls (2021,-)

Showrunners: Mindy Kaling & Justin Noble
Where to Watch it: Max

The Sex Lives of College Girls (HBO)

The one and only Mindy Kaling is the co-runner of this captivating new HBO show, which will give you four charming protagonists to channel in your everyday life. Said protagonists are four girls who couldn’t be more different: the extroverted Bela (Amrit Kaur) wants to be a journalist; the brainy Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) comes from a small town; secretive New Yorker Leighton (Reneé Rapp) has something to hide; and then there’s the sporty Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott), daughter of a U.S. senator. As these four strangers discover they’re going to be roommates at Essex College, a bond soon takes shape, and they realize they might have more in common with each other than they thought.

Not only that, but the show is funny! If you’re not expecting anything revolutionary, you’ll have a great time with it, mainly due to the charisma of our leads – and the talented actors who play them – and just how easy it is to watch them be their wonderful selves.

These 5 new TV shows about school life are all worth watching for different reasons, whether you’re looking to discover something new or for a nostalgic watch to take you back in time – at times, literally, like with Cruel Summer. Enjoy!
