Idealist Asha makes the titular wish, but it’s so powerful that it conjures a cosmic force! And when you wish upon a star… It’s only natural that said cosmic force should manifest exactly as that. But Asha and Star have a task to complete: they must defeat the villainous King Magnifico, who rules the city, and save the community. Jam-packed with Disney references, Wish is coming to Disney+ this month! If you missed it upon release, make sure to watch it. Are the references in Wish cynical or sincere? That’s up to you to decide!

Starring: Rudy Mancuso, Camila Mendes, J.B. Smoove, Francesca Reale, Maria Mancuso
Release Date: April 4
Where to Stream it: Prime Video
Charming romantic comedy Música had its world premiere at SXSW, and it’s coming to Prime Video in April. It’s based on the writer-director-star’s own life, and it revolves around an aspiring creator with synesthesia. As he navigates a life with an uncertain future, we see him deal with his family, and find love, all while trying to stay true to his Brazilian roots.
3. GIRLS STATE (Apr. 5)
Directors: Jesse Moss & Amanda McBaine
Release Date: April 5, 2024
Where to Stream it: Apple TV+
Remember Amanda McBaine and Jesse Moss’s Emmy-winning documentary Boys State? The acclaimed 2020 film looked at the future of US politics as envisaged by a thousand 17-year-old boys from Texas who build a representative government from scratch. Now, the directing duo is back with Girls State, which starts from the same premise — only, this time, it’s young women leaders from Missouri who are in charge of politics. We couldn’t be more excited.
4. SCOOP (Apr. 5)
Directors: Philip Martin & Peter Moffa
Starring: Gillian Anderson, Keeley Hawes, Billie Piper, Rufus Sewell.
Release Date: April 5, 2024
Where to Stream it: Netflix
This much discussed new Netflix release is highly anticipated for two reasons: it looks into Prince Andrew’s infamous BBC Newsnight appearance, and it’s led by an all-star cast. Gillian Anderson, Keeley Hawes, Billie Piper and Rufus Sewell all star in this Netflix original that sets forth to give us an inside account of what led BBC journalists to landing this important interview, including the high stakes negotiations with Buckingham Palace.
5. YANNICK (Apr. 5)
Director: Quentin Dupieux
Starring: Raphaël Quenard, Pio Marmaï, Blanche Gardin
Release Date: April 5, 2024
Where to Stream it: Mubi
The director of absurdist gems like Réalité (2014), Keep an Eye Out, Smoking Causes Coughing and Daaaaaali! returns with another promising movie. This time, it’s about the titular parking attendant, who enters a movie theater to watch a production of The Cuckold but is bored by the performance. And so, he decides to hijack the whole show, taking the entire theater hostage until they agree to make him the playwright.
6. THE ZONE OF INTEREST (Apr. 5)
Director: Jonathan Glazer
Starring: Christian Friedel, Sandra Hüller
Release Date: April 5, 2024
Where to Stream it: Max
Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest won two Oscars in 2024: Best International Film, and Best Sound (Tarn Willers and Johnnie Burn). It’s not hard to see why, as the movie was clearly a step above all of the other nominees, and one of its distinguishing features is its exceptional sound design. The Zone of Interest revolves around strict Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig. We follow their daily routines – only, their garden is right next to Auschwitz, and the only thing that separates their normal, boring lives from the atrocities committed next door is a fence. This is the paradox at the center of a movie that gets us to think about how easy it is to accept even the most grim, inhuman, inconceivable realities when one is desensitized to them. An extremely uncomfortable watch – and rightly so.
7. THE GREATEST HITS (Apr. 12)
Director: Ned Benson
Starring: Lucy Boynton, David Corenswet, Justin H. Min
Release Date: April 12
Where to Stream it: Hulu
What if music and memory had a connection so strong that they had the power to literally transport us somewhere else? This is the premise of The Greatest Hits, a new romantic comedy from Searchlight Pictures that’s coming to Hulu on April 12, 2024 after its limited theatrical release earlier this month.
8. LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL
Directors: Cameron & Colin Cairnes
Starring: David Dastmalchian, Fayssal Bazzi, Laura Gordon, Ian Bliss, Ingrid Torelli
Release Date: April 19, 2024
Where to Stream it: Shudder
David Dastmalchian plays Johnny Carson rival Jack Delroy in Late Night with the Devil, which revolves entirely around the October 31st, 1977 episode of his night time talk show. That night, Jack plays a Halloween special like no other by bringing a very special guest to the show – only, he ends up unleashing evil into the rooms of everyone watching. Audiences are raving about this movie and so are we: you absolutely don’t want to miss it.
9. MIGRATION
Director: Benjamin Renner
Voice Cast: Kumail Nanjiani, Elizabeth Banks, Caspar Jennings, Tresi Gazal, Awkwafina, Carol Kane, Keegan-Michael Key, David Mitchell, Danny DeVito
Release Date: April 19, 2024
Where to Stream it: Peacock
Migration is finally available to stream, as a Peacock exclusive on April 19, 2024! This charming animated movie is about the Mallards, a family of ducks who have different ideas about how to educate their kids. On one hand there’s mom Pam, who’d like to show them the world; on the other is dad Mack, who is much more conservative. When they stumble upon a migrating duck family, they decide to embark on a trip with them, all the way to Jamaica via New York. An inspirational tale for children that will be fun for the entire family.
10. REBEL MOON — PART TWO: THE SCARGIVER
Director: Zack Snyder
Release Date: April 19, 2024
Starring: Sofia Boutella, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Staz Nair, Anthony Hopkins, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Ingvar Sigurðsson, Alfonso Herrera, Cary Elwes, Rhian Rees, Elise Duffy, Sky Yang, Charlotte Maggi
Where to Stream it: Netflix
Rebel Moon — Part One was disappointing, but that doesn’t mean Part Two: The Scargiver has to be too. The film continues the saga of Kora, and it should show us the most thrilling part of the warriors’ adventure, as this is where they prepare to fight and possibly sacrifice everything in the name of peace. It’s a tale of heroes and legends, and we have high hopes in this one.
