In episode 7 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, Percy (Walker Skobell) and Clarisse (Dior Goodjohn) both set out for the Princess Andromeda, the ship captained by Luke (Charlie Bushnell) and the other Demigods who have rebelled against the Olympians and Camp Halfblood. Percy wants to rescue Annabeth (Leah Jeffries) and Clarisse is determined to retrieve the Golden Fleece and complete her quest.

Despite the significant changes from the original books, episode 7 does an excellent job at developing its characters. In particular, Clarisse goes through significant character development during season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and especially in this episode, when she reveals her true character by helping a friend in need at the risk of jeopardising her own quest. This episode also turns its attention to Kronos. While this is not the first time the audience hears the Titan speak, we do get a better insight into his influence on Luke and Percy and his overall plan.

Annabeth and Luke are also further explored in episode 7 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians both as individual characters and in terms of their complicated relationship. While some of their scenes are a little bit expository, the audience will enjoy gaining more insight into their past relationship and their opposing views on the Olympians. This is especially interesting to see as it is one of the pivotal plot points of season 2 and behind Luke’s betrayal of the other demigods and of Camp Halfblood.

Episode 7 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a very tense episode thanks to its use of the soundtrack and excellent pacing. The music contributes to creating the right atmosphere for each scene of the episode, with a successful mix of comedy, action, and magical elements. With only one episode to go for season 2, the Disney+ show delivers a thrilling and fascinating episode that will have audiences at the edge of their seats to find out how the rest of this story is going to go.

The Golden Fleece is overused from the very beginning of episode 7 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This makes for lazy storytelling that uses the magical element as a way to easily fix all the plot points that would be too complicated to resolve in a different way. Not only is this uninteresting to watch, but it also takes away from the novelty of seeing the characters use the Golden Fleece for the first time to save Camp Halfblood like they do in the original books. While departing from the source material is not always a bad idea, it does not seem to work in season 2 of the Disney+ show.

Unfortunately, the changes from the original source material continue in the overall plotline of this episode. Unlike in the books, episode 7 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 foreshadows the final use of the Golden Fleece too much. In the original source material, the effect of the Fleece on Thalia’s tree is kept as a surprise until the very end of the book. This also happens with Percy’s prophecy, which has been mentioned since the very beginning of the second season, and which is eventually revealed in a way that makes it fall flat and feel uninteresting.

Overall, Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 7 is a tension-filled and action-packed episode that delivers a strong set-up for the season 2 finale. Despite some storytelling problems and issues in the adaptation, it is a successful episode in the way the characters and their relationships are developed.
