Bridget Jones is coming back! Here is everything we know about the fourth movie of the series, Bridget Jones 4: Mad About the Boy.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will be the latest addition to the film series about Bridget Jones, the titular character, a romantic, imperfect, and relatable woman whose adventures and love stories have won over the hearts of people all over the world. Here’s everything we know about the latest movie, Bridget Jones 4!
Who Is Starring in Bridget Jones 4?
The cast of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will of course include Oscar winner Renée Zellweger (Judy), who is reprising her iconic role as the titular character of the film series. Alongside her, fans will find another familiar face: Hugh Grant (Wonka) as Daniel Cleaver. As the main antagonist of the series, we would not want to see a Bridget Jones movie without Daniel, but will he reprise his usual role as the antagonistic but charming love interest in the upcoming sequel? We know he will be in Bridget Jones 4 but the audience will have to wait to find out what role Daniel is going to play in Bridget’s life now.
Will There Be New Actors in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy?
While some fan favourites are returning, the sequel is going to introduce us to new characters as well. Leo Woodall (One Day) as Roxster, Bridget’s new – and rather young – love interest. Chiwetel Ejiofor might also play an interesting role in Bridget Jones 4 as one of the teachers at the school that Bridget’s children attend. Emma Thompson (Merchant Ivory) and Isla Fisher (The Great Gatsby) also joined the cast as Doctor Rawlings and Rebecca, Bridget’s neighbour, respectively.
What Is the Plot of Bridget Jones 4?
Based on a book by the same name by Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy takes us into a new season of Bridget’s life. Four years after Mark Darcy’s (Colin Firth) death, Bridget Jones is now navigating her life as a single mother to two children and a widow after her husband passed away. At the same time, she also remains her clumsy, chaotic, and somewhat prone-to-disaster self that so many of us know and love.
Will Colin Firth Return for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy?
Judging by the official trailer that was released earlier in November, we may not exactly be ready to say goodbye to Mark Darcy quite yet, and neither is Bridget. As she has to learn how to live with the loss of her husband, we might see Mark a few more times in a memory or ghost-like form before he is truly gone. One thing is for sure: there is no Bridget Jones without Mark Darcy, and Bridget Jones 4 seems to know that very well.
Where Is Bridget Jones 4 Set (and Filmed)?
The setting has always been a key part of Bridget Jones. Much like the other films of the series, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is set in London. During the trailer, there is an establishing shot of the city with the Shard and Tower Bridge, two of the most recognised and portrayed London landmarks. We can already see that the movie will feature some iconic locations of the British capital where the movie was also filmed earlier this year.
When Is Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy Coming Out?
Bridget Jones 4 has the perfect release day for a romantic comedy: Valentine’s Day. The film will be released internationally in cinemas on February 14, 2025 by Universal Pictures. If you live in the United States, however, you will be able to see the movie two days earlier as Peacock is releasing it in the United States on February 13, just in time for Galentine’s Day instead.
Will There Be Another Sequel After Bridget Jones 4?
There is no news of a fifth movie yet. With no other book in the series, for now, at least, another sequel might be unlikely. While there is no actual plan for another sequel yet, this may not be the last we see of Bridget. After all, the last three Bridget Jones films have all been commercial and critical successes, and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy might easily be the same, which bodes well for a possible continuation of the movie series.
It may not be much, but what we know so far about Bridget Jones 4 makes it even more exciting. Mad About the Boy already feels like the perfect movie for fans of the franchise with the return of such a beloved character as Bridget and the good feeling that romantic comedies are known to evoke.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will be released globally in theaters on February 14, 2025 and will be available to stream on Peacock from February 13. Watch the Bridget Jones 4 trailer below!
