Bridgerton’s latest season has just come out, but we are already thinking about season 5: this is everything we can expect from it!
Can’t get enough of Bridgerton? Neither can we! Season 5 may be a while away, but this author is already thinking about it. Who will the protagonist be? And what love story will it centre on next? Nothing is for sure yet, but this is everything we can expect from the upcoming season of the beloved Netflix period drama show.
A New Protagonist in Bridgerton Season 5
With a new season always comes a new lead. Bridgerton season 5 has not yet announced its protagonist, but we do know that it is going to be either Francesca (Hannah Dodd) or Eloise (Claudia Jesse). While many are speculating that the next season will finally show us Eloise’s love story, Francesca might be more likely to become the next protagonist than many may think. Those who have read the book know that her story does not end with her husband’s tragic passing, which was portrayed in the last few episodes of season 4, but instead it is just the beginning.
Francesca has featured prominently in both seasons 3 and 4, which could very well serve as a set up for her role as lead in season 5, now that the background for her love story, as well as our emotional connection with the character, has been established. In the last episode of Bridgerton, Francesca also says that she will never marry, a statement many leading characters have previously made just before finding their love match.
Hannah Dodd (Enola Holmes 2), who actress plays Francesca, has also prominently featured in the promo for Season 4, more so than any cast members who are not the main romantic couple, which might be setting her up as the future lead. As for Eloise, this author thinks she still has some growth to do before finding her happily ever after. Besides, as Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell said, her story does not end with marriage, but instead it begins with it, so it is entirely likely that we will have parts of Eloise’s love story in Bridgerton season 5 already.
Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton Season 5
As always, we can expect Lady Whistledown to play a bit role in Bridgerton season 5. Penelope might have given up her role as Lady Whistledown, but someone else has taken up her mantle. Who could it be? Theories are circulating far and wide after the last episode of season 4, but one thing is for sure: we can expect the next season of Bridgerton to delve into this mystery once again as audiences try and find all the clues regarding the identity of the new Lady Whistledown.
New and Returning Characters in Bridgerton Season 5
Bridgerton would not be Bridgerton without the titular leading family. As such, we can expect to see some familiar faces come back: Sophie and Benedict may very well have a cameo, especially if the series starts showing us Eloise’s love story, and both Kate and Penelope are most likely going to be fundamental to the story just like in season 3 and 4 when they both featured despite their love stories being shown on screen already. We may also see other non-Bridgerton familiar faces. As fans of the book know, both Francesca’s and Eloise’s ultimate love interests are people we are already acquainted with.
However, that is not to say that Bridgerton will not be introducing new characters in its upcoming season. It is likely that season 5 will have new plotlines that do not necessarily involve the main couple and, as such, could very well introduce new characters in the ton.
The Setting of Bridgerton Season 5
We don’t know much about Bridgerton Season 5, but we do know that the plot will take us two years into the future. We can definitely expect the time jump to influence the characters’ relationships with each other, but also their own personal growth. Whether it is Francesca or Eloise, we can also expect the show to explore new environments as both stories take us away from the ton and the marriage mart in a traditional sense. Instead, we may return to the countryside that featured in season 4 or even the Kilmartin Castle in Scotland.
The Future of Bridgerton: What to Expect After Season 5
Bridgerton has already been renewed not only for a fifth season, but also for a sixth one. One way or another, we are surely going to see both Francesca and Eloise’s stories. And if it continues to have the success it is currently having, we can only imagine that it will also be further renewed for seasons 7 and 8, thus allowing the audience to see a story for every single sibling in the Bridgerton family.
While Bridgerton Season 5 has started filming already, everything about its plot, its lead, and even its story is still very much under wraps. But this will not stop us from imagining all the scandalous stories and exciting plot lines that the show will deliver in its next season, making us even more exciting to see which love story will be portrayed next.
