Here it is, folks, the end of the line (for now), and Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 10 is a hell of a way for things to close out. While the season started off slow, from Episode 6 until now, it has been full speed ahead from a narrative perspective.
Showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco have not only made this show such twisted fun, but they have recaptured part of what made Season 1 so special in the back half. Every twist and turn has led to this and without further ado, let’s dig into the magic that is “Full Circle”.
Though Taissa (Tawny Cypress) has finally regained control of her body over her other self in the adult timeline, she has lost Van (Lauren Ambrose) who bit the bullet at the hands of Melissa (Hilary Swank). As you can imagine, Tai is in a very dark place, despite being herself again and winds up making decisions that will have a drastic impact on the series moving forward. Tawny Cypress has been amazing this season and in “Full Circle”, she will make you feel everything. Then there is Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) who sees all of her actions finally catch up with her once Misty (Christina Ricci) reveals she knows who killed Lottie (Simone Kessell).
Taissa and Shauna’s arcs are intertwined in Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 10 and the end result of both will carry into a potential Season 4. As you may recall, Tai has usually been on Shauna’s side, but even she has a point of no return, it seems. Watching this shift happen is just one of this week’s many highlights.
I can hear you begging me to get into the finer details of Lottie’s Death and as much as I would like to, I will not. What I will say is that the reveal of Lottie’s killer excellently ties into Tai, Shauna, and Misty’s season long arcs. It also gives Lottie some very satisfying closure, when you consider the trajectory that adult and teen Lottie were on in Season 3. Both dove headfirst into who they truly were through an obsession with the wilderness. When Lottie tried to tap back into that primal nature from out there, she paid an unfortunate price. It is a tragic fate for one of this series’ most beloved characters but fitting at the same time. What I love is that even in death, Lottie is influencing the narrative, which is one of the best things you can ask for as a fan. Jackie (Ella Purnell), Lottie, Natalie (Juliette Lewis) and potentially Van now haunting our last survivors is a fascinating idea. Even after death, you still have a role to play on this show.
Shauna might be fully gone in the adult timeline after Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 10 and honestly? I am here for it even though my feelings on her have been up and down lately. Things were always headed in this direction and in the wake of finding out who killed Lottie, her life is in complete chaos. As a result, she finally seems resigned to the impact of letting her dark impulses through. Rather than move forward, as so many have tried to convince her to do this season, Shauna chooses to embrace her darkness as she did out in the wilderness. The facade/dream she had of being a normal wife and mother is gone, and now there is just a broken woman consumed by rage. I cannot wait to see where Shauna goes from here and it seems like she might be on the same path as Swank’s Melissa, who is oddly MIA this week, but reconnected with her worst self by killing Van. The possibilities for the adult timeline are something that fans will debate over for a while, this finale presents several avenues that could lead to a potential endgame for the adults.
Things get rather insane with the teen timeline in the finale as not only are arcs from this season wrapped up, but we also get some long awaited answers to questions from previous seasons. I will hold my tongue about as much as I possibly can just in case you have not had the chance to watch yet because I want everyone but especially fans that have been here since the beginning to have the chance to take all this in without me telling you.
When Episode 9 ended, it seemed like pretty much all hope was lost for the teens getting home. Hannah (Ashley Sutton) killed hiker guide Kodi (Joel McHale) and sided with Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) after being caught trying to escape. Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) snuck away, defeated, and sobbed, as she cried, the first snowflakes of winter fell on her head. Then she heard Misty (Samantha Hanratty) nearby, who expressed that she had a way to get them home. There is just one catch: She is getting a piece from the broken transponder from the team’s plane, which she found and destroyed in secret back in Season 1. That is where audiences pick things up in Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 10, with Shauna now ruling with an iron fist as antler queen and Natalie, Van, and Misty hoping to repair the hiker’s radio phone.
The next morning, winter has fully arrived, and so does something unexpected, which leads Lottie (Courtney Eaton) to propose that the wilderness is unhappy with them. While they have spilled blood, there has not been a true sacrifice, and Lottie, along with Shauna proposes another hunt. This hunt faces some opposition from Natalie, Van, and somewhat surprisingly, Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown). Tai has been loyal to Shauna more often than not, much like her adult counterpart, so this represents a shift that could carry over into next season as well. The teen timeline mostly focuses on the very unnerving hunt, and while I will not spoil the outcome, I will say that as the title implies, this is a “Full Circle” moment for them. We get answers that have lingered over our heads since Season 1 and they are very rewarding in all honesty.
During the hunt, Natalie works to repair the radio phone rather than murder another one of her friends and she receives a surprising assist, much to the anger of Shauna. Once she reaches out on the radio phone for help, Natalie gets the shock of her life, and that is when the credits hit.
It is more obvious than ever that the team behind the show is setting up an endgame in both timelines. While certain aspects have been a little rushed, if they have been told the series is only getting a Season 4 rather than their originally pitched five seasons, it makes sense to adjust so things do not end as abruptly. Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco have done a great job of injecting Yellowjackets with more life while wrapping up certain plots from across all three seasons. As much as they have done, it would be horrible if Showtime does not at least pick up Season 4, because there is clearly more story to be told. Overall, this season is much more comparable to Season 1, even with its bumpy start and appears to serve as a promising new beginning for the series. Based on that cliffhanger, I suspect things will be a lot different if and when the show comes back.
Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 10 ends the season with a bang and opens up a whole new world of possibilities for the series. Fans will be dying to know what is after all the twists and turns in a finale filled with some astonishing performances. It has been a pleasure to cover Season 3 for Loud and Clear and here’s hoping we all get to return to the wilderness soon.
Season 3 Episode 10 of Yellowjackets, the season finale, is now available to stream with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan.
