A new HBO Max release, Portobello is a biographical drama series telling the stranger-than-fiction true story of beloved Italian TV host Enzo Tortora, who was taken on an odyssey that dragged him from the heights of life and rooted him in its abyss.

As king of 1980s television with his primetime show Portobello, Tortora also served as Commander of the Republic, appointed by the president of Italy. When a major earthquake fractures an already fragile criminal organization, a trusted friend of the organization’s crime boss—and regular Portobello viewer—decides to repent and falsely names Tortora to the police as a drug trafficker involved with the Neapolitan crime syndicate.

I am on pins and needles, waiting to follow Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown, of This Is Us) as he leaves the safety of the government’s controlled, secret bunker in search of his wife in the dangerous outside world.

There’s also the fact that, after learning the truth about their “paradise,” those remaining in the bunker now face a crumbling social structure, new power struggles, and a shift in leadership as paranoia takes hold. I can’t wait.


17. Scrubs, Season 10

This narrative will see a very different trajectory—almost Cinderalla-like. Benedict lives in a fantasy world while Sophia lives in reality. If these two are to come together and allow their true love to flourish, they’ll have to meet in the middle. Is that something they can do, coming from two very different worlds?


19. The Gray House
