After an offer from a certain gentleman, Sophie (Yerin Ha) has to consider what the future holds for her as a maid who fell in love with a nobleman. Terrified of making the same mistakes as her mother, she wants to push Benedict (Luke Thompson) away, despite his unwavering commitment to her and attempts to figure out what a life together may look like. Elsewhere in Mayfair, her evil step-mother, Araminta (Katie Leung), is hell-bent on finding her and making her life as miserable as she possibly can.

In part 2 of season 4, Bridgerton once again writes romance and yearning really well. Despite a slow start with the first two episodes, the show does an excellent job at heightening the stakes of this love story by relating it to the seemingly insurmountable divide between social classes that Benedict is constantly reminded of. While they may have to keep their distance for most of the episodes in this season, Sophie and Benedict are a joy to see on screen together with their undeniable chemistry and beautiful love story that will be resolved in an especially tense, original, and clever way.

With the second part of season 4, Bridgerton explores new themes and motifs that the audience has never seen in previous episodes, making these last four episodes especially interesting and different from anything we’ve seen before. In particular, one of the new narratives introduced in the last few episodes portrays death and grief, which are both shown in a very human and relatable way for anyone who may have experienced this in real life. The show also focuses on second chances as one of the main motifs of the season, which ties in well with the main plotline and with the secondary narratives that we see explored this season.

Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2 Trailer (Netflix)

Bridgerton season 4 part 2 spends a great deal of time on the other Bridgerton siblings as well and creates very interesting plots and character developments for them. The character growth is especially evident in Eloise (Claudia Jesse). Her firm beliefs are still unwavering, but she is finally starting to see life from the perspective of the other debutants. Is this a sign that she might finally be ready to enter her very own season? Only time will tell, but the show is definitely setting up a new narrative for her to explore in the future. Gregory (Will Tilston) and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) are also more integrated in the overall plot of the season as the show slowly foreshadows their own future stories.

In season 4 part 2, it becomes clear that Bridgerton is at its best in the family scenes when we see the main family come together both in joy and sorrow to support one another. This is why the absence of some key members of the family, like Kate (Simone Ashley) and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), who appear only briefly, or Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Rene-Jean Page), whose names the show seems afraid to mention, is even more felt in the last four episodes of the season. With a scandal brewing and some life-changing events happening in the family, it seems unlikely that both Anthony and Daphne, and their spouses, would not return to be close to their siblings.

The focus on other characters who take up a significant part of season 4 part 2’s storyline only makes this more evident. Much like in part 1, Bridgerton focuses too much on the Mondrichs (Martins Imhangbe and Emma Naomi) once again, taking the focus away from the main storyline and all the other narratives that are introduced in this season. However, the show does a very good job at making all of them come together in the final resolution, which is satisfying to watch and makes these plots more relevant to the overall narrative of season 4. Similarly to part 1, the costumes and musical choices do not stand out in any way when previously they had been such a fascinating part of the show.

Overall, Bridgerton season 4 part 2 delivers an exciting and emotional season finale that will leave audiences tearing up like never before in this show. It also sets up the future of the show quite well, leaving us wanting more from these stories and characters and teasing what the future may hold for the characters who are yet to marry and find their love match.
