Sinners broke a record with 16 nominations this year, beating All About Eve, Titanic and La La Land‘s previous joint record of 14 nominations. It’s going to be an exciting Oscar race, especially in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories, where frontrunners include Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael B. Jordan, Jessie Buckley, Rose Byrne, and more. Wagner Moura, also a frontrunner, broke another record as the first Brazilian to ever be nominated in this category.
Among the most nominated movies are also One Battle After Another (13), Marty Supreme (9), Frankenstein (9), and Sentimental Value (9). Audiences were surprised by the lack of nominations for Wicked: For Good, Sorry, Baby and The Testament of Ann Lee. Though the Best Actress category is very strong this year, the absence of Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another) and Jennifer Lawrence (Die, My Love) was noticed, among other omissions.
